New Jersey is making waves in the tech world by partnering with Plug and Play, a renowned global innovation platform, to run its regional AI Accelerator. This strategic collaboration aims to strengthen the state’s artificial intelligence ecosystem, connecting local startups with an impressive network of mentors, investors, and industry partners. The initiative also seeks to attract leading international startups, positioning New Jersey as a magnet for AI innovation.

Expanding Opportunities for AI Startups

The AI Accelerator will be housed at the NJ AI Hub’s West Windsor facility, leveraging the state’s expertise across healthcare, pharmaceuticals, smart infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, financial services, energy, materials, telecommunications, and logistics. Plug and Play plans to operate several startup cohorts each year, supporting businesses from ideation through to impactful market launches.

  • Mentorship and Workshops: Startups will gain expert advice to sharpen business models and accelerate growth.

  • Funding and Partnerships: Access to investors and over 550 corporate partners will fuel capital and business expansion opportunities.

  • Global Reach: With a network of more than 100,000 startups and 60 innovation hubs in over 25 countries, Plug and Play will open international doors for New Jersey ventures.

Strategic Partnerships and Statewide Support

The AI Accelerator builds on the momentum of the NJ AI Hub, co-founded by Princeton University, the State of New Jersey, Microsoft, and CoreWeave. The Hub has quickly become a central force in the state’s innovation landscape. Recently, it was named one of only two global sites to host Microsoft’s Discovery platform, a major leap in agentic AI and cloud computing for scientific advancement.

Key stakeholders, including state officials and partner organizations, have expressed strong support. Princeton Provost Jennifer Rexford highlighted the unique opportunities this brings for faculty and students, while NJ Economic Development Authority CEO Tim Sullivan emphasized the expansion of resources for AI entrepreneurs statewide. Leaders from Microsoft and CoreWeave stressed the critical role of mentorship, infrastructure, and high-impact programming in nurturing local innovation.

Nurturing a Thriving AI Ecosystem

The NJ AI Hub extends its impact beyond the accelerator. It offers co-working spaces, education and workforce initiatives, and community events such as policy discussions and workshops.

The goal is to promote collaboration, boost diversity among entrepreneurs, and maintain a strong pipeline of talent and ideas within the state’s AI sector. The Hub’s leadership, including executive director Liat Krawczyk, is dedicated to empowering the next generation of AI leaders and startups.

  • Entrepreneurial Support: Faculty, students, and emerging founders can translate research breakthroughs into thriving companies.

  • Workforce Development: Training and education programs will help close New Jersey’s AI talent gap.

  • Community Engagement: Events will connect stakeholders and increase public awareness of AI innovation.

Looking Ahead: A Global AI Innovation Center

This partnership marks a significant step in New Jersey’s journey to becoming a world-class AI innovation hub. By uniting academic excellence, industry leadership, and a global accelerator, the state is creating fertile ground for bold ideas and technological breakthroughs. The AI Accelerator will help local talent thrive and attract international investment, ensuring New Jersey’s prominence in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
