What if your Google Discover feed could match your interests, mood, and daily needs? Google is making this a reality with its new "Tailor your feed" experiment, now in Labs for US English users. This marks an exciting shift toward more interactive, user-driven content curation on Discover.

How to Access and Use the Feature

Android users can easily try out "Tailor your feed" by tapping the Labs beaker icon in the Google app and switching on the experiment. Once enabled, refreshing the Discover feed reveals a “Try now” button or an option in the overflow menu, launching a prompt box. Here, you can tell Discover what you want to see, or avoid, making customization quick and seamless.

  • Simple setup: Just a few taps to start personalizing.
  • Prompt-driven interface: Type or select suggested prompts to modify your feed instantly.
  • Real-time updates: Your preferences are applied immediately and remembered for future browsing.

Customizing Your Feed with Prompts

The intuitive prompt box features a carousel of suggestions, such as “Stop showing me negative news.” You can fine-tune your feed by naming topics, sources, or the overall feel you desire. For example, you might request more meal prep videos, content from a favorite publisher, or ask for a calmer, cozier vibe. This level of granular control means your Discover feed can evolve with your life and interests.

  • Add interests: “I signed up for my first half marathon, and I want training advice.”

  • Remove old topics: “I just got back from my New York trip, so I don’t need travel tips anymore.”

  • Refine recommendations: “I like getting recipes, but make sure they’re dairy-free.”

  • Preference for sources or formats: “Show me more from the Washington Post” or “Make my feed feel calm and cozy.”

Conversational AI for Ongoing Personalization

Google’s new approach mirrors chatbot-style interactions, letting you tweak your feed through ongoing conversations. The platform remembers your choices, so you can easily revisit, adjust, or clarify your interests as they change. A handy history icon in the prompt box links directly to your My Activity page for further adjustments.

  • Conversational feedback: Clarify or refine your requests for even more precise results.
  • Adaptive memory: Your feed evolves as you interact and provide feedback.

What This Means for Users

Though "Tailor your feed" is still in early testing and limited to US English, it highlights Google’s commitment to user agency. Whether you want to filter out negative news, follow new hobbies, or focus on trusted publishers, this experiment puts you in the driver’s seat of your Discover experience.

The Future of Personalized Content

With "Tailor your feed," Google is redefining how users interact with content. By combining conversational AI and prompt-based customization, the company empowers individuals to stay informed, inspired, and entertained, on their own terms. Watch for updates as this innovative feature evolves and potentially expands to more users in the future.
